Maharashtra: 70% Schools Reopen; With 19 percent Attendance Edu Dept States Presentees Rising Steadily

Pune, December 16, 2020: It has been almost a month and about 70 percent of schools in Maharashtra have been functioning except for three districts. The schools have started offline classes of Std IX to XII students from November 23. However, student attendance has been only around 19 percent in all these schools.

The schools which otherwise usually would reopen in the month of June every year; changed their schedule this year owing to the global pandemic. It was decided to start classes for Std IX to XII from December 23. There are 22,204 schools from Std IX to XII and over 56.48 lakh students in Maharashtra. Till December 14, around 16,620 schools have started offline classes and recorded an overall attendance of over 10.72 students.

More than 90 percent of schools have resumed in Gadchiroli, Osmanabad, Satara, Solapur, Latur, Bhandara, Sangli, Washim and Nanded districts. In the state, 100 percent of schools have reopened in Jalgaon district and Kolhapur which has the highest attendance of students at 64 percent, stated the education department. It also stated that over the last ten days the students’ attendance in school is slowly increasing.
