Maharashtra: Ashok Chavan Resigns From Congress, May Join BJP
Mumbai, 12th February 2024: In recent days, rumors have circulated suggesting that senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan is considering joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Fueling this speculation, Chavan has reportedly tendered his resignation from the Congress party, according to a news report from the news agencies.
Addressing the ongoing discussions, senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister of the state, Devendra Fadnavis, held a press conference.
Fadnavis stated, “Many accomplished leaders from the Congress are in talks with the BJP. Given the direction the Congress party has taken in recent years, leaders deeply connected with the people are now looking towards us. Consequently, leaders from Congress across the country will be joining the BJP. Some significant leaders are expected to make the transition soon. So, I will simply say, ‘agae agae mekhiye hota hai kya…'”
Ashok Chavan’s resignation from Congress membership has fueled further speculation, with suggestions that he might also resign from his position as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Reports indicate that he may have submitted a letter to Congress state president Nana Patole. Following Chavan’s resignation, it is anticipated that Patole will head to Delhi for discussions with the Congress high command.
A letter circulating on social media is adding weight to the talks of Ashok Chavan’s resignation from the Assembly. The letter refers to Chavan as a former assembly member, hinting that he may have already stepped down from his MLA position before resigning from Congress membership.
In a letter addressed to Nana Patole, Ashok Chavan stated, “Sir, I hereby submit my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress (INC) party with effect from noon on February 12, 2024.”
Meanwhile, certain news channels have reported that Ashok Chavan is expected to hold a press conference shortly to clarify his future political role. The answers to whether Chavan will join the BJP or any other party may be revealed during this upcoming press conference.
