Maharashtra Bhushan award to veteran singer Asha Bhosale

Pune, March 25, 2021: This year’s Maharashtra Bhushan Award has been declared to veteran singer Asha Bhosale. The announcement was made today after the meeting of the award selection committee members took place under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The award is given by the Maharashtra State Government since 1996 to recognise the distinguished work and achievements of eminent persons from the state from various walks of life. Her sister and veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar had won this award in 1997.

Asha Bhosle was born in 1933 in Sangli district. The versatility of her voice made her distinct among the Mangeshkar siblings who all are into music. She was also selected for Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

While responding to the congratulatory messages, Asha Bhosle in thanked all through her twitter account. She said “My heart felt gratitude to the people of Maharashtra for conferring upon me the highest level of honour the State can award to an individual – the Maharashtra Bhushan Award. She made her debut in Hindi film industry with the song “Saawan Aaya’, in a movie released in 1948. She has sung in more than 20 languages. She also has been acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records for being the most recorded artist in Music.
