Maharashtra: CBI Arrests Central Railways Divisional Engineer And Clerk In Bribery Case In Bhusawal

Bhusawal, 16th August 2021: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Divisional Engineer and an official, both working in Central Railway, Bhusawal Division, Bhusawal (Maharashtra) in a bribery case.

A case was registered against Divisional Engineer M L Gupta and Clerk Sanjeev Rade of Central Railway, Bhusawal Division, Bhusawal on a complaint alleging demand of Rs 4,50,000 for issuing Letter of Acceptance in respect of two tenders awarded to the complainant.

It was further alleged that the complainant’s firm was shortlisted as L-1 in the month of July 2021 in the tender process for repairing work of staff quarters & service building in the Central Zone area at Bhusawal amounting to Rs. 1,34,88,320/- (approx.) and Up-gradation of Coach Care Centre for SS-1 maintenance of LHB Coaches of Coaching Complex, Bhusawal worth Rs. 1,13,35,744/- (approx.).

It was also alleged that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs 4.5 lakh for issuing Work Order/Letter of Acceptance. CBI laid a trap and caught both the accused while demanding and accepting part payment of bribe amount of Rs two lakh and Rs 40,000 respectively from the complainant.

Searches are being conducted today at the premises of both the accused. A sum of Rs. 15 lakh (approx.) has so far been recovered from the premises of Divisional Engineer.

Both the arrested accused will be produced tomorrow before the Competent Court.
