Maharashtra: CBI Arrests Engineer of Utility Powertech Ltd For Accepting Rs One Lakh Bribe

Solapur, 10th August 2022: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Engineer of Utility Powertech Ltd. Solapur (Maharashtra) for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs. one lakh from the Complainant.

A case was registered on complaint against Govind Kumar, an Engineer of Utility Powertech Ltd. (a Jt. Venture Company of a private company & National Thermal Power Corporation, a Govt. of India Enterprise). It was alleged that the Engineer demanded undue advantage of Rs. 2,50,000/- from the Complainant (a Contractor) in connection with return of his security deposit.

After negotiation, the accused allegedly reduced the bribe to Rs. Two lakh and agreed to accept an initial amount of Rs. One lakh. The accused has been working in UPL since 2015 on contract basis & looking after safety and accounts related issues in the absence of a regular Accountant.

CBI laid a trap and caught the Engineer red handed while accepting Rs. one lakh from the Complainant. Searches were conducted at the premises of accused in Solapur which led to recovery of incriminating documents.

The accused was produced before the Competent Court at Solapur and was remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
