Pune, 3 April 2021: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray interacted with people through Facebook Live on Friday. The CM responded to the criticism by the opposition over the possibility of lockdown. Without taking his name, Thackeray reacted to the remarks by the industrialist Anand Mahindra that the government must improve the health infrastructure instead of imposing a lockdown.

The CM said, “An industrialist has asked me to improve health services instead of imposing lockdown. We are working on that front already. The health services have gotten better over the last one year, and they will be even better in the coming time. However, I would like to plead to this industrialist that we will increase hospital beds, but you make sure that we get at least 50 more doctors, nurses, other health workers every day across the state.”

He added, “Health infrastructure doesn’t mean getting more furniture. Along with more ventilators, we need experts who know how to use them. We need experts who understand how much Oxygen is to be given to a patient. We need doctors to determine the dosage of Remdesivir. Where would we find so many doctors and experts?”

While opposition has threatened to take to streets if lockdown is imposed, Thackeray said that they should definitely get to streets, but to fight Coronavirus, not the lockdown. “Get down to the streets to help the doctors, to support the families who have lost someone to COVID, to support the system fighting against the pandemic,” he appealed.
