Maharashtra: DHE Asks Colleges to Report Vacant Professor Posts for Recruitment Clarity

Pune, 23rd January 2025: The Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) in Pune, Maharashtra has initiated steps towards faculty recruitment in non-government-aided colleges by requesting information on vacant positions based on student enrollment. This move is expected to provide clarity on the number of vacant professor posts across Maharashtra’s colleges.

– The Directorate has sent a circular to all colleges requesting details on filled and vacant positions as of 31st December 2024, based on sanctioned posts according to student numbers as of 1st October 2017.
– The Maharashtra Government had been considering filling these positions through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), but due to potential delays, they may now be filled at the university level.
– Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil recently hinted at this shift in recruitment strategy.
