Pune, 23rd January 2025: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has been appointed as the Special Planning Authority for 117 villages along the proposed Pune Ring Road project. This decision, announced by the Maharashtra Government, aims to streamline development and expedite the implementation of the 172-kilometer ring road project.

The villages, spread across five talukas in the Pune district, will see comprehensive development plans created by MSRDC. The affected talukas include Haveli, Bhor, Purandar, Mulshi, and Velhe. This move is part of a larger strategy to enhance connectivity and promote economic growth in the region.

In Haveli taluka, 25 villages including Gogalwadi, Malkhed, and Mandvi Khurd will be part of the development plan. Bhor taluka will see 37 villages, such as Bhambavade, Bhongwali, and Dhangawadi, included in the project scope. Purandar taluka contributes 23 villages to the plan, including Kodit Khurd, Pur, and Pokhar.

Mulshi taluka has 23 villages listed for development, among them Mutha, Botarwadi, and Andgaon. The smallest number comes from Velhe taluka, with six villages including Varasgaon, Kuran Budruk, and Mose Budruk.

The Pune Ring Road project, spanning 172 kilometres with a width of 112 meters, aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. MSRDC will oversee an area of approximately 668 square kilometres across these villages.

Two economic development centres are planned along the ring road, one covering 62 villages in Haveli, Bhor, and Purandar talukas, and another encompassing 55 villages in Haveli, Mulshi, and Velhe talukas.

This decision has raised concerns about the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (PMRDA) draft development plan, which now faces uncertainty due to overlapping jurisdictions. However, officials argue that MSRDC’s expertise as a planning authority will facilitate faster project implementation.

The land acquisition process for the ring road is ongoing, with MSRDC aiming to complete it by March 2025. The entire project is scheduled to be operational by September 2027, according to recent statements from MSRDC officials.

As the project moves forward, it is expected to significantly impact the region’s infrastructure, potentially boosting economic activities and improving connectivity for the affected villages and surrounding areas.
