Maharashtra: Directorate of Higher Education Instructs Colleges To Build Separate Toilets For Transgender Students

Pune, 22nd February 2022: Colleges and universities in Maharashtra state will have to construct separate toilets for transgender students. The instructions in that regard were given by Dr Dhanraj Mane, Director, Directorate of Higher Education.
The Supreme Court had ordered the inclusion of transgender students in the mainstream society. A gazette stating the same was also published in 2019.
Against this backdrop, Dr Mane has given instructions to non-agricultural, deemed, self-financed universities and colleges in the state to construct separate toilets for transgender students.
The facility will help many students who face humiliation in using either male or female toilets.
