Maharashtra Election 2024: Pune Witnesses Smooth And Peaceful Assembly Elections Amid Heavy Police Deployment
Pune, 21st November 2024: The Assembly Elections in Pune were conducted peacefully on Wednesday (20th November), with no major untoward incidents reported. Minor disputes between party members were resolved without escalation. Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma credited meticulous planning and tight security arrangements for the smooth conduct of the polling process across the district.
Under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar and Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, extensive security measures were implemented in the city’s eight assembly constituencies. A significant deployment of forces ensured order and safety. Pune Police deployed 600 police officers, 6,800 police personnel, 1,750 Home Guard personnel, multiple units of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), and 17 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) units. Sensitive polling stations received additional security reinforcement.
To prevent malpractices, security personnel were stationed at every polling booth. Rapid Action Force units were strategically deployed in sensitive areas to handle emergencies. Police teams were instructed to respond to incidents within five to ten minutes, ensuring quick resolution of any issues.
The Pune Police Commissionerate also oversaw security arrangements in parts of Shirur, Purandar, and Khadakwasla constituencies. Prohibitory orders were enforced around polling stations, with shops, commercial establishments, and vehicle movement restricted in the vicinity to maintain order.
Joint Commissioner Sharma praised the police force for their effective planning and execution, which ensured a seamless voting experience. “Due to our proactive measures and strategic planning, the polling process was conducted without any disruptions,” he stated.
The Pune Police’s vigilance and well-coordinated efforts contributed significantly to the peaceful completion of the voting process in the district.
