Maharashtra Excise Department Seizes 24 Bottles of Adulterated Scotch in Pune

Pune, 8th December 2024: Scotch Whiskey is in high demand among liquor enthusiasts. The Pune Division of the Maharashtra State Excise Department has uncovered a case of adulteration in bottles of expensive Scotch whisky. A team from the Maharashtra State Excise Department has taken action and seized 24 bottles of adulterated Scotch. One person has been detained in connection with this case. The arrested individual is Dhanji Jetha Patel.

During the New Year and Christmas period, the Maharashtra State Excise Department has been monitoring the sale of adulterated liquor and the smuggling of liquor from other states. The team, under the guidance of Pune Superintendent Charan Singh Rajput and Deputy Superintendent Sujit Patil, was patrolling when Deputy Superintendent Patil received a tip-off that adulterated Scotch was being transported for sale in a vehicle from the Pimpri Chinchwad Link Road. The Excise team laid a trap at the location. A rickshaw leaving from in front of the Hotel Egale Executive was stopped on suspicion. Inside, the team discovered 24 bottles of Scotch. Patel was detained and interrogated. He revealed that he had obtained the liquor bottles from the Marunji area.

The team seized 18 bottles of Scotch, 110 empty bottles, labels, and the rickshaw, amounting to a total of Rs 5.96 lakh. Patel is being investigated further about the source of these bottles. The operation was carried out under the leadership of Superintendent Charan Singh Rajput and Deputy Superintendent Sujit Patil, with the support of secondary inspectors Abhay Aute, Ganesh Pathare, Amruta Patil, and Pramod Palve.
