Intense Competition Heats Up at the Ashok Ruia Memorial Winter National Bridge Tournament

Pune, 8th December 2024: The prestigious Ashok Ruia Memorial Winter National Bridge Tournament, organized by the Pune Region Bridge Association, is in full swing. Sanctioned by the Bridge Federation of India (BFI) and the Maharashtra Bridge Association (MBA), the event has attracted top bridge players from across the country.

The tournament has already seen fierce competition among the participants. As of now, Asha Sharma and Pooja Batra, along with Vasanti Shah and Gopika Tandon, have emerged as frontrunners, securing the top two positions after 22 rounds of the qualifying phase.

Other notable pairs advancing to the final round include Shital Bansal and Sarika Mittal, Alka Kshirsagar and Bharti Dey, and Ekta Chadha and Bina Malhotra.

The event is being hosted at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, Pune. The women’s pairs competition consists of 10 rounds with five deals each, totaling 50 deals. The top 18 pairs from the qualifying phase will progress to the all-play-all round-robin stage, where the pair with the highest score will be crowned national champions.

Apart from the women’s pairs event, the tournament will feature mixed pairs, senior team events, and the much-anticipated match-point pairs competition.

The tournament was inaugurated by Amla Ruia, who also participated in the event. Other dignitaries present included Alka Kshirsagar, Shirish Karkarey, Anand Samant (Senior Vice President, BFI), J.K. Bhosle (Emeritus President, MBA), and Anil Padhye.
