Maharashtra Government Grants Tax Exemption For School Buses Due To Covid-19

Mumbai, 12th January 2022: A decision was taken by the Maharashtra government at the Cabinet meeting today to grant tax exemption to contractors transporting school children in the backdrop of the coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

School buses owned by schools and used only as school buses, contracted by schools as well as school buses only to transport school children will be exempted from annual tax for the period from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2022.

However, if the school buses have paid the tax for the above period, such tax will be adjusted in the forthcoming period as per Section 9 (4A) of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Tax Act, 1998.
