Pune, 4th November 2021: BJP spokesperson Ali Daruwala has urged the Maharashtra government to slash the excise duties and VAT on petrol and diesel with immediate effect.

The centre has reduced excise duties on petrol by Rs 5 and Rs 10 on Diesel.

Daruwala said that ”The irony now for the petrol pump owners in Maharashtra is that the fuel prices in neighbouring states are Rs 7 to Rs 10 cheaper than Maharashtra. This will lead to interstate trafficking of petroleum products and will kill the dealers in Maharashtra who already suffered huge losses due to reduction in prices last night.”

He also said that ”Almost all dealers have suffered more than Rs 2 lakh per petrol pump as they had excess stock because of the Diwali bank holiday and oil companies were closed for a long period of time because of Diwali holidays. Close to 5000 petrol dealers in the state have suffered from more than Rs 100 Crore losses in Maharashtra and over close to Rs 60,000 crores all over India.”

The dealer community has got a major setback and is in the same situation as the farmer crisis after the monsoon season in Maharashtra, he added.
