Honey Bee Keeping Project For Tribal Women To Develop Entrepreneurship; Finolex Industries, MMF, FICCI FLO Pune And Mumbai Chapter Join Hands

Pune, 4th November 2021: Finolex Industries & its CSR partner Mukul Madhav Foundation supported tribal women in Mokhada of Palghar district with the Honey Bee project. The motive of this project is to develop entrepreneurship in women’s. Along with, FIL/MMF other like-minded organizations including FICCI FLO Pune and Mumbai Chapter, Rotary SOBO Mumbai come forward to support this initiative to make tribal women independent.

This initiative will support them to become an entrepreneur in the Palghar district through the cultivation of honey bees. There is an added advantage to this project beyond the important socio-economic dimension for these women, in that it also helps in protecting honey bees, which are decreasing at alarming honey bees, whereas they play a critical role in maintaining the local biodiversity.

In a nutshell, this project is to Enable, Enhance, Educate & Employ women to support the environment and Ecology in the long term. Maharashtra Khadi Gramodyog Mahamandal is supporting this program with 50% subsidy, training to these groups and supporting with buyback scheme of collected honey. A total of 46 women were identified for this initiative in Waghyachi wadi Village, Mokhada block of Palghar district.

Recently, this project was inaugurated at Mokhada. In the program, Neha M. Devrukhakar, District Head and Vasant Chaudhari, officer Thane-Palghar of Khadi Gramodyog Mahamandal, Usha Poonawala chairperson and others members Gayatri Tewari, Naina Kanal, Pooja Chheda of FICCI FLO Pune Chapter, Lubeina Shahpurwala, Chairperson & other members Tehmina Khandwala, Aarmeen Mogul Dordi, Khushnuma Khan of FICCI FLO Mumbai Chapter, Rajiv Punatar, President and other members Els Reymaers, Sheetal Idnani of Rotary SOBO, Babalu Mokale & Yasmin Shaikh of Mukul Madhav Foundation, Pune & Finolex Industries Mumbai Team were present.

Usha Poonawala shared that with this collaboration we can start many projects in tribal areas of the Palghar district. Rajiv Punatar was very happy to share that this venture will initiate developmental initiatives in this region. 

Lubeina Shahpurwala shared that the honey bee project will change the women’s status and make them independent at their own place, supporting them for economic growth at their place is very important.

Process of implementation

· After Diwali documentation will be submitted to the District collector for approval of 50% Subsidy

· After the subsidy training to all women by Maharashtra Khadi Gramodyog Mahanadal for 10 days

· After subsidy and training order to Maharashtra Khadi Gramodyog Mahamandal –Sateri Sahitya Unit Kolhapur for Purchase of KITs

· After order 20 days to deliver the KITs at location

· By 15th December 2021 all KITs will be delivered in Mokhada block

· After two months Honey will be collected by MKGM at the rate of Rs 250-Rs 300 per kg at the village
