Maharashtra Government To Give 50% Tax Waiver For Commercial Vehicles

Pune, September 16, 2020: The Maharashtra government has decided to give 50 percent waiver on vehicle tax for commercial vehicles who are in financial crisis due to the lockdown. This will bring relief to millions of transporters in the state. The government resolution (GR) was issued on Tuesday in this regard which states that the waiver will apply from 1st April 2020 to 31st March 2021.

The lockdown was declared across the country from March 25 to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Only essential vehicles were allowed to travel. However, for two months a large number of vehicles were parked in one place, whereas passenger vehicles have been allowed to ply after five months. As the vehicles were not used for 2 to 5 months, the vehicle owners did not make any income. As now the vehicles are allowed, but the expected income is not obtained. Therefore the goods and passenger transporters are facing financial issues.

Because of the financial woes of the vehicle owners, they made various demands to the state government to waive the road tax for the one year. Concerned organizations also warned of an agitation if the demands were not met. Taking note of all this, the state government has now decided to waive 50 percent vehicle tax to provide relief to the transporters. And also gave the details of the people eligible for this concession. 

It has been clarified that the vehicle owners who have paid the vehicle tax from 1st April 2019 to 31st March 2020 will get the benefit of this 50 percent concession.

– Goods Vehicles

– Tourist Vehicles

– Mining Vehicles

– Private Service Vehicles

– Commercial Capers Vehicles

– School Buses/Vehicles
