Pune, September 15, 2020: A committee has been formulated by the state government to look into the exorbitant fee-charging by the medical fraternity for conducting CT scan. The new decision will regulate the pricing required for conducting the scan. State health minister Rajesh Tope twitted about it today.

It was noticed during the Coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic that the doctors advise the patients to conduct the (HRCT) CT scan of lungs to trace the infection, its spread. However, the rates to conduct it, private hospitals charge exorbitant money, which the majority of times is unaffordable to the patients.

The state has already regulated the rates for RT-PCR test. There was a huge demand to regulate the CT scan (HRCT) rates. The rates vary from hospital to hospital from Rs 3500 to 12000. Thus, responding to it, state health minister took this decision.

In his tweet he mentioned, “HRCT is very important for early diagnosis among the COVID-19 patients. The rate to conduct it is generally above Rs 10,000. There was a demand to fix the rates and thus the government has formulated a committee.”

Doctors can start treating the COVID-19 patients with the help of the scan reports before the swab results come up. This saves time and helps the patient for early recovery.
