Maharashtra: Lockdown Extended Till June 15, Relaxations In Some District As Per Situation – CM Thackeray

Pune, 30th May 2021: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray today announced an extension of lockdown in Maharashtra till June 15. He addressed the state through social media.
“The restrictions will not be the same everywhere. We will take stock of the situation and decide on some relaxations in districts where there are fewer cases. There will be strict restrictions in districts where there are more cases”, Thackeray said.

Speaking about Coronavirus disease (COVID19) cases, Thackeray informed that though cases have dropped in urban areas, there is an increase in COVID cases in rural areas. He also said that out of 12 crore people, 2.25 crore people in the state have been vaccinated till now.
“Even after a decline in daily coronavirus cases, current numbers in Maharashtra near the peak of the previous wave. If we look at age-wise infection during the waves: the first wave affected senior citizens, the second one youth and the likely third wave might affect children. While some have negated this but we are preparing ourselves for it. Maharashtra’s oxygen generation capacity 12,500 MT which was increased to 13,000 MT but the daily requirement went up to 17,000 MT”, Thackeray said.
“In the last wave, we recorded around 24,000 cases daily; during this wave they went over 60,000. This time, other than COVID19, there is a new devil mucormycosis (black fungus) to deal with. Maharashtra has recorded 3,000 cases of mucormycosis”, he added.
The Chief Minister said that this year’s class 10th exams have been cancelled and a decision for class 12 will be taken soon. The central government should prepare one uniform policy for the 12th standard exams and result, he said.
