Mumbai, 12th May 2021: The lockdown in the state is showing positive results, hence the Maharashtra cabinet ministers have demanded the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to increase the lockdown in the state once again, informed the state health minister Rajesh Tope.

“All the ministers have demanded that the lockdown be extended till May 31. However, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will announce the final decision regarding the lockdown”, said Tope. Speaking after a cabinet meeting.

There is also a shortage of vaccines in the state. Against this backdrop, the state has decided to immediately postpone vaccination for the age group of 18 to 44 years. Citizens who have taken the first dose of the vaccine need to be given a second dose. If the second dose is not given to the citizens who have taken the first dose in time, it will not have any effect, said Tope.

Vaccines available for 18 to 44-year-olds will now be given to citizens over 45 years of age. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the availability of the Corona vaccine, said Tope.

How many vaccines are available and how many are needed?

For the second dose, 16 lakh doses of Covishield and 4 lakh doses of Covaxin are required. However, the government has 7 lakh Covishield and 3 lakh Covaxin doses. That means a total of 10 lakh doses are available, informed Tope.
