Pune, 17th April 2021: In a major relief for thousands of employees and domestic workers, the Maharashtra government has discontinued the requirement of Coronavirus Disease (COVID19) every 15 days for going to the workplace.

Earlier it was mandatory for industrial workers, domestic help, staff of the hotel and restaurants, e-commerce and others to carry negative RT-PCR reports from April 10. Later rapid antigen test (RAT) was also accepted.

However, the demand for the RT-PCR increased exponentially and now labs take about 4-5 days to give reports. Thus, delaying treatment of people who are COVID positive.

Maharashtra State relief and rehabilitation secretary Aseem Kumar Gupta informed that the local authorities have been asked to issue revised orders as the new orders issued by the state government did not mention the 15-day random RT-PCR tests for the workers.

“RT-PCR test is required for those having symptoms”, he said.
