Wanowrie, 17th November 2022: A special Maharashtra Police Sports Academy would be established on the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) campus in Pune city, informed Director-General of Police (DGP) Rajnish Seth on Wednesday.

Seth announced that deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has given orders to prepare a plan to launch the sports academy as soon as feasible after officiating the opening ceremony of the 71st All India Police Wrestling Cluster Championship 2022 at the SRPF Group II in Wanowrie.

The proposal created by the additional director-general of police (administration), Anoop Kumar, is still in its draft form, claims Seth. It will be prepared within a month. Police officers and the general public will receive training at the sports academy.

The DGP announced that until November 20, the cluster championship would feature seven wrestling, kabaddi, weight lifting, arm wrestling, bodybuilding, power building, and boxing events involving 37 teams and 3,000 policemen from the state police, CRPF, BSF, SSB, and other police units across the nation.

He claimed that the cluster championship is the first time the All India Police Sports Control Board has included armed wrestling, power building, and bodybuilding sports. A total of 120 state police officers are competing in the event.

Seth claimed that the epidemic prevented the state police duty meeting from taking place for two years. In January 2023, it will take place at the SRPF campus.
