Shaikh had left Aurangabad on April 4 and finally unfurled the Tricolour and Maharashtra Police flag on Mount Everest on May 19. The tallest mountain peak is 8848 meter high.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also congratulated Shaikh on his achievement.

Shaikh practiced hard for four years while preparing to conquer the mountain. Every day he woke up at 4.30 am and did cycling for 20 km from his house in Fazalpura locality to Devagiri Daulatabad fort. There he used to climb the fort with 25 kg sack on back. He had also successfully completed a mountaineering course.

All this required huge monetary burden and he had to take loans from banks as well as police credit society, CSR funds and contributions from friends.

Shaikh joined the police department in 2006. His father is a farmer, while two brothers are lawyers and one brother is into construction business. He completed his education in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
