Pune, 2nd May 2023: The online admission process implemented for admission to private schools under the Right to Education Act (RTE) has seen a slow response from parents, with less than half of the available seats filled so far.

Under the RTE, children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections are given free admission in private schools on reserved 25 percent seats. This year, in the RTE admission process, 101,846 seats are available for admission in 8,823 schools across Maharashtra. A total of 364,413 parents had filed applications for their children’s admission to these seats.

The first draw has been made for the admission selection list, and 94,700 children have been admitted. The deadline for the admission of these children is May 8. However, due to the slow pace of the admission process, only 36,753 children have been admitted so far, which is less than half of the available seats. Many parents are facing difficulties in getting admissions, which is causing delays in the admission process. It may take more time to admit the remaining children after verifying their documents.

According to the first draw, 81,129 children are on the waiting list. After the admission of the children in the selection list is confirmed, the children on the waiting list will get admission, and parents will receive messages on their mobile phones. However, due to the slow pace of the current admission process, children on the waiting list will have to wait for a few more days for admission. Also, parents are confused about the admission of children on the waiting list.
