Maharashtra To Establish Independent Corporation For Conservation Of Forts In Three Months

Pune, 7th March 2023: Forts are an important part of Maharashtra’s cultural heritage, with a strong association with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The Samast Hindu Bandhav Samiti organisation has been advocating for a separate corporation to conserve these historical sites for many years. Responding to this demand, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and Tourism Minister have committed to establishing an independent corporation for the conservation of forts in the next three months. The announcement was made during a press conference by Ravindra Padwal, the founder president of Samast Hindu Bandhav Samiti.
Various members of the Samast Hindu Bandhav Samiti, including the Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, President, Women President, Advisor, Youth Region President, Planning Committee Chief, Utsav Chief, and Youth Pune District President were present during the announcement at Patrakar Bhavan in Navi Peth.
Ravindra Padwal explained the importance of preserving these sites, stating that “due to geographical changes and conditions, the forts are weakening. “We hear about the collapse of the forts, ruins. However, the archeology department seems to be inactive in this. There should be an independent corporation to preserve these historical heritage,” he said. He also emphasized the importance of other issues, including the maintenance of the forts and the formation of the corporation.
Advantages of the Corporation for forts:
The Corporation will bring under its jurisdiction over 400 forts in Maharashtra that have not yet been surveyed by the Department of Archaeology.
It will prepare a district-wise list of forts for better management and conservation.
The Corporation will generate employment opportunities for people living in the fort areas, boosting tourism in the region.
The funds allocated for the maintenance and conservation of forts will be used judiciously, minimizing corruption.
Emergency healthcare services will be made available at the forts.
The Corporation will work towards the conservation and reconstruction of forts to preserve their historical and cultural significance.
The mapping of all forts will facilitate easier maintenance.
Children in Maharashtra with an interest in architecture and civil engineering can study the unique construction style of the state, creating opportunities for education and employment.
The Corporation will create awareness among the public about the importance of historical buildings and their significance.
Formation of the Independent Corporation of fort:
The Corporation will operate independently and consist of experts in History, Archaeology, and allied subjects. Government officials and fort conservation organizations will also be included. Any other issues will be presented to the citizens after discussion with the government.
