Maharashtra to get major share of Rs 100 lakh cr to be spent on basic infrastructure in five years – PM Modi

Mumbai, Sept 7, 2019 : According priority to mobility, connectivity, productivity, sustainability and safety the government is intended to develop a network of basic infrastructure facilities commensurate with requirements of the 21st century. IN coming five years an amount of Rs 100 lakh crore has been provided for this and Maharashtra will get a big chunk of this fund, assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Modi today performed Bhumipujan of three metro routes and metro bhavan, unveiled a swadeshi metro coach and inaugurated the Bandongari railway station through remote at a function organised at Convention Centre in Banda-Kurla Complex (BKC) today. Modi also released the “Vision Document” of Mahamumbai Metro on this occasion.

State Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil, Higher and Technical Education Minister Vinod Tawde, School Education and Sports Minister Adv. Aashish Shelar graced the occasion by their presence.

Prime Minister Modi said that we should learn how to achieve success in unfavourable situation from the scientists of ISRO. Citing a Sanskrit Subhashit he said that there are three types of people. The first among them do not venture to start any work for the fear of obstructions; the second category people do start but give up midway once they confront any obstacle. However, the third type of people who are determined to achieve their goal do not bog down to any threat or danger or obstruction and consistently engage in their mission till they achieve their target. The ISRO scientists come in this third category and I am fully confident that we will see our dream of landing on the moon fulfilled soon.

PM Modi further said that first metro in India was started some 30-35 years ago. After that in 2014 metro works are going on in 27 cities covering 675 km distance. Out of this, the 400 km phase is made operational in last five years. “One Nation One Communication” is necessary to make India a super power (Ek Bharat Shreth Bharat) in 21st century. Mumbai gives impetus to the nation’s progress. Works worth Rs 20000 crore are being going on in Mumbai to provide better basic infrastructure facilities to make commuting easy and hassle-free for Mumbaikars, he said.

Greeting people on the occasion of Ganesh Festival in Marathi, Prime Minister Modi said that the event started by the late Lokmanya Tilak is now celebrated in other countries also. People of Mumbai and Maharashtra have always stood by me and encouraged me, he added.

With the metro Mumbaikars can commute without any trouble, besides, this will provide jobs for 10,000 engineers and 40,000 skilled and unskilled persons, thus total 50,000 will get employment in this project. With projects like Navi Mumbai Airport, Trans-Harbour Link, and Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train, faster transport will be available besides job opportunities will also increase, he added.

Take a vow for eliminating pollution

Maharashtra is celebrating Ganesh Festival. Prime Minister appealed to the people to take ‘One Country One Vow’ on this occasion. He urged them to avoid polluting sea and Mithi River by throwing plastics, garbage etc. during the Ganesh idol immersion ceremony which otherwise is thrown in the sea and the rivers.

 

Maharashtra first state to implement Integrated Transport System: CM

Speaking on this occasion Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that major changes will be visible in coming years in Mumbai’s public transport with the network of metro railway in suburban areas. The metro line 10, 11 and 12 bhumipujan of which is performed today will increase the connectivity between Mumbai and Suburbs. Maharashtra will have a largest metro network in the country and it will be the first state to implement the Integrated Transport System in the country, he added.

Shri Fadnavis further said that these metro lines will provide direct access from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Thane, Mira-Bhayander, Dombival-Kalyan, and Navi Mumbai. It is estimated that approximately 40 lakh commuters will use these three lines daily bin next 10 years. Efforts will be done to integrate the transport system in MMRDA area. Metro route will take some minutes to go from one point to another all along its 320 km route. By 2021-22 212 km metro line and by 2023-24 another 85 km metro line will be completed. Metro is a green transport system and will lead to 2.5 crore ton less carbon emission.

The metro bhavan of which bhumipujan was performed today will direct all metro services and metros will be run with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). Indian company Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) is given the contract for manufacturing metro coaches under “Make in India” program. Small stations can be connected with metro by Hybrid Metro and such Hybrid Metro is being started at Nasik, the Chief Minister said.

Chief Minister Fadnavis congratulated Prime Minister Modi for abrogating Article 370 in J & K and thanked him on behalf of the entire state. He also thanked the Prime Minister for inspiring the ISRO scientists for Chandrayan 2 mission.

Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that Mumbai is a city that fulfils all our expectations and hopes. The Centre and State governments are working in tandem to develop Mumbai commensurate with the changing times. Bhumipujan of various schemes was performed in last five years and efforts are on to complete those schemes in time. In coming days, emphasis will be laid on expanding the network of basic infrastructure facilities. Metro will offer safe, hassle-free and fast commuting system to Mumbaikars, he said.

Shiv Sena Paksha Pramukh Uddhav Thackeray said that abrogation of Article 370 endorsed that Kashmir is an integral and inseparable part of India once again. He said that the Chandrayaan 2 Mission can be said to be successful due to unprecedented research of the ISRO scientists. Our country does not lack in strength, capacity and capability and now we have a visionary leadership in Prime Minister Narendra Modi to use these qualities properly. Metro will play a major role in the future to provide better commuting facility to people in Mumbai and surrounding areas, he said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi unveiled the metro coach and inspected it along with Governor Koshyari, CM Fadnavis and others. MMRDA Commissioner R A Rajiv gave additional information about the metro project.

The presence of Union MoS for Social Justice Ramdas Athavale, State Cabinet Ministers Vidya Thakur, Ministers of State Ravindra Vaykar, Ravindra Chavhan, Yogesh Sagar, Avinash Mahatekar, MPs Gopal Shetty, Punam Mahajan, Rajan Vichare, Srirang Barne, Shrikant Shinde and others added to the grace of the function.
