Pune, 22nd April 2023: Rupali Chakankar, the Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women, recently gave an interview where she discussed the role of the Women’s Commission in addressing various issues related to women. During the interview, she also spoke about receiving complaints from both men and women.

Chakankar stated that on her first day as Chairperson, the first complaint she received was from a man regarding his wife. She emphasized that although the Women’s Commission primarily focuses on women’s issues, they also receive complaints from men. She further explained that when the Commission receives a complaint from a man, they call both parties and counsel them, as the family institution is the foundation of society.

Addressing the allegations of bias, Chakankar stated that the State Commission for Women does not work in a partisan manner. She cited a recent incident where the Commission took notice of criticism towards BJP’s women MPs, emphasizing that it is wrong to say that the Commission works with bias.

Chakankar’s statements shed light on the Women’s Commission’s efforts to address issues related to women while also recognizing the importance of maintaining the family institution. Her comments also seek to dispel any notions of bias in the Commission’s functioning.
