Maharashtra’s MSMEs to Benefit from MoU Promoting Intellectual Property Rights Awareness and Filing

Mumbai, 2nd May 2024: A significant stride towards the empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Maharashtra unfolded today as the Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd. (MSSIDC), a Government of Maharashtra Enterprise, joined hands with Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai (MNLU Mumbai) to ink a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Under the stewardship of Smt. Farogh Mukadam, Joint Managing Director of MSSIDC, and Prof. (Dr.) Dilip Ukey, Vice Chancellor of MNLU Mumbai, this collaborative agreement aims to conduct Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Workshops across all 36 districts of Maharashtra. Additionally, the MoU seeks to bolster the recognition and protection of Geographical Indications associated with Maharashtra’s indigenous products.

Expressing his appreciation for the initiative, Prof. (Dr.) Dilip Ukey extended gratitude to Shri Rajendra Nimbalkar, IAS, Managing Director of MSSIDC, highlighting the potential of this partnership to fuel innovation, foster ideation, and incubate new businesses and entrepreneurial ventures throughout the state.

Smt. Farogh Mukadam underscored the significance of the collaboration, emphasizing the shared vision of both entities to equip MSMEs with the requisite knowledge and resources to navigate the complexities of intellectual property rights. Recognizing IPRs as pivotal for the growth and sustainability of small-scale industries, she reiterated their commitment to fortifying Maharashtra’s economic landscape.

The event witnessed the presence of Dr. Pratapsinh B. Salunke, Registrar I/c, and Sajid Sheikh, Assistant Professor & Coordinator, Centre for Research in IP, representing MNLU Mumbai, alongside Mr. V. D. Kapate, General Manager of MSSIDC, and other dignitaries.
