Pune, 25th February 2025: Mahashivratri, one of the most revered festivals in Hinduism, is set to be celebrated with great fervor across India. This auspicious occasion, falling on the 14th day of the dark fortnight in the month of Phalguna, holds deep spiritual and cultural significance for devotees of Lord Shiva.

The festival commemorates the manifestation of Lord Shiva in the form of a Shivling, symbolizing the union of the formless with form. According to Hindu scriptures, it was on this night that Lord Shiva first appeared as a Jyotirlinga, witnessed by Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu.

Mahashivratri also celebrates the divine marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Devotees believe that observing rituals on this day brings marital bliss and fulfills wishes. Temples across the country will host special ceremonies, including the reenactment of Shiva and Parvati’s wedding.

Worshippers typically observe fasts, perform abhishekams (ritual bathing of the Shivling), and engage in night-long vigils and prayers. The chanting of “Om Namah Shivaya” echoes through temples and homes as devotees seek Lord Shiva’s blessings.

This year’s celebrations hold additional significance as they mark the conclusion of the Kumbh Mela, with devotees taking holy dips and offering donations on Mahashivratri.

As the festival approaches, preparations are in full swing at major Shiva temples. Authorities expect large gatherings and have implemented measures to ensure the smooth conduct of rituals while maintaining safety protocols.
