Pune, 26th February 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally received an Additional Commissioner after nearly a year of administrative backlog. Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Patil has been promoted to the Additional District Collector and subsequently appointed as Additional Commissioner of PMC on deputation. However, confusion has arisen over his appointment as the Revenue Department, rather than the Urban Development Department, issued the official order, mentioning the Municipal Additional Commissioner post.

The Municipal Corporation has three sanctioned Additional Commissioner posts, but two of them have remained vacant for the past year. The situation worsened after Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne was transferred in April 2024 and Ravindra Binwade was moved a few months later, leaving Prithviraj B. P. as the sole Additional Commissioner handling all departments. With the Municipal Commissioner also managing extra responsibilities, administrative pressure had been mounting on PMC.

City MLAs had repeatedly demanded urgent appointments to fill these posts, especially after the Maharashtra Assembly elections, when multiple transfers were made across the state. However, PMC was left without a new officer until Tuesday (25th February), when the government promoted Patil and appointed him to the role.

Before his promotion, Patil was handling key portfolios, including Vigilance, Property, and Election Departments. His appointment is expected to ease the administrative burden and improve the functioning of the Municipal Corporation.
