Pune, April 2025: The Maharashtra State Commission for Women is set to conduct a three-day public grievance hearing in Pune district from 15th April to 17th April 2025, under its outreach initiative titled “Mahila Aayog Aplya Dari” (Women’s Commission at Your Doorstep). The aim is to bring justice closer to women by addressing their complaints locally.

Chairperson Rupali Chakankar will lead the commission’s Pune district tour, during which she will oversee public hearings in urban and rural areas. The hearing for Pune city will be held on Tuesday, 15th April and for rural Pune on Wednesday, 16th April. Both events will take place at the Planning Hall, District Collector’s Office in Pune, starting at 11 am.

On Thursday, 17th April, the hearing for Pimpri-Chinchwad will be hosted at the Late Mayor Madhukarrao Ramchandra Pawale Auditorium, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), also at 11 am.

Appealing to women in the district, Chakankar urged them to step forward and voice their grievances without hesitation. “Women must come forward fearlessly and present their issues. The commission is committed to resolving complaints on the spot, with support from legal advisors, counselors, police officials, and local administrators,” she said.

The initiative is designed to decentralize the grievance redressal process, eliminating the need for women to travel to Mumbai. Officials present during the hearings will include the district collector, municipal commissioners, police officers, and representatives from various departments.

After the hearings, a review meeting will be held to discuss broader issues concerning women and children in the district.

Speaking about the broader vision of the initiative, Chakankar added, “The Maharashtra State Commission for Women is continuously working to empower women. Many women, especially from remote areas, cannot afford to travel to Mumbai for complaint hearings. That’s why we are taking the commission to them—right to their doorstep.”
