Kondhwa, 21st May 2023: Pune Police’s Crime Branch successfully dismantled an illegal betting racket during an IPL cricket match between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings.

The Anti-Extortion Squad arrested three individuals after conducting a raid at a flat located in Dhanshree Signature Society in the Saibabanagar area of Kondhwa, Pune. Several mobile phones, laptops, and other related materials were seized as evidence. The accused have been booked under the Prevention of Gambling Act, and a case has been registered at Kondhwa Police Station.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Wasim Hanif Shaikh (39) of Kondhwa, Ikrama Maqsud Mulla (26) of Ghorpadi Peth), and Musabin Mehmud Bashaib (35) of Somwar Peth. Bookie Akshay Tiwari from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and Jitesh Mehta, the owner of Plunge Pub in Koregaon Park, are also named in the case.

Acting on a tip-off received by policemen Sudhir Ingle and Shankar Sampete from the Anti-Extortion Squad, it was found that illegal betting was taking place during the match between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings at the Signature Society in Kondhwa. Subsequently, a team led by Police Inspector Ajay Waghmare, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zende and ACP Satish Govekar, conducted a raid at the flat in Signature Society.

Three individuals were caught red-handed participating in the betting activities, and five mobile phones along with a laptop were seized from the premises.

The team included Police Inspector Ajay Waghmare, Sub Inspector Mohandas Jadhav, policemen Sudhir Ingle, Pradeep Shitole, Vinod Salunkhe, Sachin Ahivale, Saidoba Bhojrao, Sangram Shingare, Chetan Shirolkar, and Surendra Jagdale.
