Major Operation: Two Arrested In Possession Of Illegal Firearms

Pune, November 11, 2020: In yet another major operation to unearth illegal firearms, The Pune Police Crime Branch has arrested two youth for alleged possession of three firearms on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Samadhan Vibhute(28), resident of wagholi, and Gopal Mujmule (21), resident of Khandevanagar.

According to police officials, Police Inspector Pandharkar of Anti-dacoity squad and his team received secret information that two persons with two pistols and one desi Katta will be coming to Kharadi gaon near Darga Road, Bapu dhaba.

Acting on the secret tip-off, a team was set up under the guidance of DCP(Crime Branch)  Bachchan Singh, and both the accused were arrested in possession of firearms.”We have seen many cases in which criminals have been using firearms regularly in crimes. This special initiative is focused on unearthing the larger nexus involved in the trade of illegal firearms. The crime branch will continue the crackdown against illegal firearms”, said Singh.

Police officials have recovered three weapons -Two pistols, one gavthi Katta, and six rounds of bullets, total worth Rs 1,36,200 from their possession.

“In the last one month, this is the 9th seizure of firearms along with 15 rounds totaling 4.5 lacs approx. In 2020, a total of 59 firearms and 108 ammunition have been recovered from 52 accused in 41 cases”, added Singh.
