Hinjawadi, 6th July 2025: A major power disruption affected thousands of consumers in Pune’s Hinjawadi area on Sunday afternoon following a breakdown in a key ultra-high voltage underground power line of the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MahaTransco).

According to officials, the incident occurred at around 2:10 PM when the 220 kV Infosys to 220 kV Pegasus underground line malfunctioned shortly after scheduled maintenance work was completed. The outage has impacted power supply to 91 high-voltage and approximately 12,000 low-voltage electricity consumers in the MIDC and IT Park zones serviced by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).

MahaTransco had initially shut down the power supply from 11 AM to 1 PM on Sunday for pre-announced maintenance and repair work. The maintenance was completed as planned, but while restoring the supply, the system experienced a major breakdown.

The disruption has affected 25 feeders of 22 kV capacity supplying electricity to various MSEDCL customers. Notably, two ultra-high-voltage consumers—Infosys and Nextra—are among those impacted. Key areas such as MIDC, IT Park, Raisoni Park (partially), Dohler Company, and the Wipro Circle in Hinjawadi have reported outages.

MSEDCL officials said they are making “war-like efforts” to restore the electricity supply through alternative routes. More than 63 MW of load is currently being diverted to other lines to minimize downtime.

“Efforts are underway to restore power supply through alternate arrangements as quickly as possible,” said an MSEDCL spokesperson. “We request consumers to cooperate with us during this temporary inconvenience.”

As of Sunday evening, restoration work was still in progress, and consumers were advised to remain patient until full services are resumed.
