Pune, 13th April 2021: Pune city Mayor Murlidhar Mohol discussed several issues surrounding Covid-19 in the city with the Sassoon General Hospital dean Dr Murlidhar Tambe. He discussed beds, RT-PCR tests, isolation wards and others.

Speaking about this, Mohol said, “Daily 25,000 covid-19 tests are conducted in the city, of which only 2,000 RT-PCR tests are conducted at government hospitals. I am constantly demanding to increase this number of testing since the last several days.”

“On average, 23,000 out of 25,000 tests are done through the private labs, but we are not sure that the person tested positive at those labs stays in isolation or not. In such cases the risk of virus spread is higher”, he said.

“The total number of beds in Sassoon Hospital is 1,750 but only 520 beds for the Covid-19 patients. On one hand, 80% of the beds in all the hospitals in the city are reserved for Covid-19 patients, but on the other hand in Sassoon hospital, this percentage is very low. That is why at least 60 percent of beds should be reserved in Sassoon for Covid-19. If this happens, about 500 more beds will be available for the people,’’ he informed.

“I also discussed the ventilator issue with Dr Tambe. The Sassoon Hospital received 86 ventilators from PM Care. Out of which 54 ventilators are working while 32 ventilators are faulty. The Pune Municipal Corporation had received a total of 34 ventilators from PM Cares. Out of which 33 ventilators are operational. Thus, I wonder what is the reason behind private hospitals closing down the ventilator services?“, questioned Mohol.
