Malegaon Blast Case: 19th Witness Turns Hostile, Refuses To Recognize Accused

Malegaon, 24th March 2022: In the 2008 Malegaon blast case, another witness turned hostile during the court hearing on Thursday. He refused to identify the accused.

 

According to the information received, another witness in the blast case refused to recognize anyone except Lt Col Shrikant Prasad Purohit, present in the court and accused of the blast.

 

 

According to the information received so far, this is the 19th witness among those who turned hostile in the Malegaon blast case. The court has fixed March 25 for the next hearing of the matter. During the court’s hearing on Thursday, the witness refused to recognize anyone except Lt Col Shrikant Prasad Purohit during his appearance.

 

 

Purohit is an accused in the blast case. On the night of 29 September 2008, at around 9.35 pm, a bomb exploded in front of Shakeel Goods Transport Company in Malegaon. The blast happened on a motorcycle. Six people were killed in this blast, while 101 people were injured.

 

A case was registered at the Azad Nagar police station in Malegaon the day after the blast. This case was related to terrorism, so after the order of the then Maharashtra government, the investigation was handed over to Maharashtra ATS.

 

 

On October 21, 2008, sections of UAPA and MCOCA were added to the FIR. During the investigation, the first charge sheet was filed by the ATS on January 20, 2009, in which 11 people were arrested and three people were shown to be absconding.
