Pune, 7th February 2026: Shyam Sunder Gupta, a senior Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer, has been transferred to the Railway Board and appointed as Principal Executive Director (Infrastructure), according to an order issued by the Ministry of Railways.

Gupta, a 1992-batch IRTS officer, was associated with several railway infrastructure and capacity augmentation initiatives in the Pune region during his tenure on Central Railway. He was involved in the preparation of the Pune area decongestion plan and the finalisation of the Pune Yard remodelling proposal, which aims to improve operational efficiency at one of Maharashtra’s busiest railway hubs.

While serving on Central Railway, Gupta also contributed to the planning of the proposed Talegaon–Uruli bypass line, intended to segregate traffic and reduce congestion on the Pune suburban and long-distance rail network. He was part of the conceptual planning for the proposed Uruli and Alandi coaching terminals, which are aimed at decentralising terminal operations from Pune station.

In addition, Gupta worked on capacity enhancement projects, including the doubling and sectional capacity augmentation of the Pune–Daund and Pune–Lonavala rail corridors, which are key routes for passenger and freight movement.

Before his transfer, Gupta was serving as the Principal Chief Operations Manager of Central Railway. Over the course of his career, he has held operational and commercial positions on Western Railway, South Central Railway, South East Central Railway, and Northern Railway.
