Kota, 1st June 2022: A guy from Kota won his five-year battle with Indian Railways to receive a Rs 35 refund, illustrating that it’s better late than never.

Sujeet Swami, a Kota-based engineer, won his five-year battle with the Railways for a reimbursement, assisting approximately 3 lakh people who had experienced a similar situation. The Railways has granted Rs 2.43 crore in refunds to 2.98 lakh IRCTC users in addition to his return.

Swami said that he filed around 50 Right to Information (RTI) applications to collect his reimbursement, according to a PTI report.

“The fight was pretty long with approximately 50 RTIs, letters to the Railways, IRCTC, Finance Ministry, and Service Tax Department, but I am finally satisfied as all the users with me would receive a refund of Rs 35 equating to over 2.43 crores,” he added.

Swami alleged that in response to his RTI request, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) stated that 2.98 lakh consumers, many of whom may have purchased several tickets, would receive a refund of Rs 35 per ticket, totaling Rs 2.43 crores

Swami told PTI that his frequent tweets demanding a refund, tagging the Prime Minister, Railway Minister, Union Minister Anurag Thakur, GST Council, and Finance Minister played a crucial role in the granting of a Rs 35 refund to 2.98 lakh customers.
