‘Manobal- Takad Atmvishwasachi,’ a World Mental Health Day Awareness Program
The program was inaugurated by Mr. Yogesh Gogawale , BJP Pune Distric President. In his talk he emphasized on how mental stress is slowly converting into a social epidemic and timely interventions need to be arranged by mental health care providers at large scale. The program progressed with Dr. Supriya Lonkar presenting “Pravas Nityanandcha” a talk about how Nityanand’s treatment ideology and infrastructure developed over years. Just before the panel discussion was hosted, Sayli Gokhale, Clinical Psychologist from Nityanand presented information about Schizophrenia and Addiction and also Rehabilitation and Aftercare protocol utilized in Nityanand.
During the panel discussion Dr. Nitin Dalaya (Founder and Medical Director of Nityanand ), Dr. Vidyadhar Watve, Dr. Dattatray Dhawale guided the audience about how medicines play a significant role in recovery of mental illnesses and what precautions need to be taken with medicines. The role of counseling and psychotherapy like vocational therapy was explained by Dr. Shirisha Sathe. Smt. Anuradha Karkare and Mr. Shrirang Umrani gave valuable information about treatment protocol for de-addiction and that an addict’s motivation to quit matters and determines whether he/she will recover. Medicines are also useful in helping handle addiction is what Dr. Dalaya explained. Dr. Dalaya elaborated that his intention while designing this program was that we need to enable masses to detect mental illnesses in time, which will enable them to bring people to the intervention facilities in early stages so that recovery is optimum. The audience’s participation in the panel discussion supports that this program was successful.
In this program Ms.Usha Gokhale, senior counselor from Nityanand shared that Nityanand has been working for treatment of chronic mental illnesses but to be able to treat other subtle mental disturbances, Nityanand would be opening two independent OPD set up in Pune.
