Marathi Language Gaurav Din Celebrated in Pune Camp with Book Donation Drive
Pune, 2nd March 2026: Kartavya Foundation, Pune Camp, organised a special programme on February 27, 2026, to mark Marathi Language Gaurav Din, the birth anniversary of noted poet Kusumagraj, and the birth centenary year of late Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray. As part of the event, books based on the life and thoughts of late Balasaheb Thackeray were gifted to Siddharth Library.
During the programme, Kartavya Foundation also honoured several individuals for their contributions in journalism, art, education, social service, sports and healthcare. Those felicitated included journalist Sandeep Kadre, cartoonist Mukim Tamboli, Principal Manish Khandagale, Librarian Dilip Nigde, Social Services Superintendent Shankar Mugave, powerlifter Sham Sahni, paediatrician Dr. Sudhakar Shetty and senior Shiv Sainiks.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives of Kartavya Foundation said the initiative aimed to promote Marathi language, literature and the ideology of Balasaheb Thackeray among the younger generation.
“Balasaheb Thackeray’s thoughts and writings continue to inspire society. Donating books to libraries is one way to keep this legacy alive,” an organiser said.
The event was attended by several political, administrative and academic dignitaries. Prominent among them were Shiv Sena liaison chief Ajay Bhosale, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) city chief Sanjay More, Army Senior Police Inspector Santosh Khetmalas, Bapusaheb Ganla, Bhimrao Patole, Sudhakar Kamble and Pravin Randive.
From the academic field, Director and Head of the Lifelong Learning and Extension Department at Savitribai Phule Pune University, Professor Dr. Vilas Adhav, was present along with Ashok Mehendale, Mohan Dudhane, Raj Rane, programme organiser Vikas Bhambure, Ashok Deshmukh, Dilip Bhikule and other dignitaries.
Organisers said such programmes help strengthen cultural values while recognising individuals who have made meaningful contributions to society.
