Married Male Partner Killed NCL PhD Scholar After His Marriage Was Fixed, Both Had Met Through Dating App: Pune Police

Pashan, 1st March 2021: Investigation by the Pune city police has revealed that the 30-year-old PhD scholar of the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) was killed by his male partner fearing he will go away as his marriage was fixed with a girl. Police have arrested the accused who had attempted suicide after the incident.

The body of Sudarshan alias Balya Baburao Pandit (30), a resident of Shivnagar in Sutarwadi, was found in Sus Khind around 8.30 am on February 27. He was a native of Janephal in Jafrabad taluka of Jalna district. He had come to Pune for studies about one and a half year ago. His cousin had registered an FIR with Chatushrungi police station about the murder case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Pankaj Deshmukh said that Pandit had met the accused Raviraj Rajkumar Kshirsagar, a native of Hingoli district, who resided in Warje, through a dating app. “They were into a relationship. However, after Pandit’s marriage was fixed with a girl, there were arguments between Pandit and Raviraj for the last 15 days. Raviraj, who is married, feared that Pandit would go away from his life after the marriage. Hence, he killed Pandit”, said DCP Deshmukh.

According to police, Raviraj had slit Pandit’s throat with a knife and then disfigured his face with a stone around 8.30 pm at Sus Khind on February 26. He went home, wrote a note and attempted suicide around 10.30 pm when his family members were not in the house. Later he was admitted to a private hospital in Warje. During the investigation, police had reached his house and learnt about the suicide attempt from his wife.

The investigation was carried out by a team under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Namdev Chavan, DCP (Zone 4) Pankaj Deshmukh and ACP Ramesh Galande. The team included Senior Police Inspector Anil Shewale, Police Inspector (Crime) Dada Gaikwad, Police Sub Inspectors Mohandas Jadhav, Mahesh Bhosale and police personnel Sudhakar Mane, Prakash Avhad, Dnyaneshwar Mule, Ashish Nimse, Dinesh Gudankush, Pramod Shinde, Tejas Chopde, Santosh Jadhav, Mukund Taru, Irfan Momin, Saras Salvi, Amol Jagtap, Sachin Kamble, Suhas Potdar and Bhaurao Ware.
