Masters Badminton Singh & Kaur Tournament 2023: A Triumph of Skill and Unity

Pune, 18th August 2023: The third installment of the Masters Badminton Singh & Kaur Tournament, which took place on August 13, 2023, at Pune’s Sanas Sports Complex, proved to be a resounding success. This event showcased the remarkable skills and determination of badminton veterans from across India. Organized by Sikh Helpline Foundation, Stackera, VRLab Technologies, SICCA Automation, Rolls Mania, and RedDevil, the tournament drew over 100 participants hailing from cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, Shrirampur, and Indore, adding diversity to the sporting landscape with representation from the Sindhi and Punjabi communities.
The tournament featured five categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Utilizing a round-robin format, each category had six competing teams. With thrilling matches that often came down to the wire, the event culminated in the following results:

In men’s singles, Sumit Singh (Team A – Blue) triumphed over Rajwant Singh (Team B – Orange) with a score of 21-19, 21-18.
Women’s singles saw Gurnoor Kaur (Team C – Red) defeating Jasman Kaur (Team D – Yellow) 21-17, 18-21, 21-15.
The men’s doubles category was won by Harjas Singh and Kashish (Team E – Grey), who bested Heero Motwani and Pawan Chandbhanani (Team F – Black) with a score of 21-16, 21-14.
Chief organizer Mr. Raj Singh of Sikh Helpline, Founder, along with the organizing team, demonstrated their commitment to badminton and community engagement. Sanas Sports Team members Ajay Raval, Shekhar Yadav, Sandeep Dangi, and Darshan Desai also played a commendable role in the event’s success.

The winners received trophies, medals, certificates, and cash prizes from Chief Guest Shri Tara Singh, an Ex-Scientist from DRDO. Praising the organizers for promoting senior citizen participation in badminton, he himself took part in the tournament at the age of 66. Notably, the event acknowledged young talents like Gurnoor Kaur (11), Jasman Kaur (11), Harjas Singh (13), and Kashish (18) who exhibited exceptional skills and were awarded special trophies and certificates.

The tournament went beyond being a competition, fostering unity and community spirit. Alongside exciting matches, participants and spectators enjoyed nourishing breakfasts, refreshing fruits, and a delectable lunch by renowned caterers Ms. Poonam Joshi (Mom and Daughters). Top-notch medical facilities, cultural performances by local artists, and engaging activities for children added to the event’s appeal.

With positive feedback from participants, families, and the media, the tournament was hailed as a triumph. The organizers expressed gratitude to sponsors, volunteers, staff, officials, and guests, and announced plans for the 2024 edition, promising more teams and categories at a new venue.
