Undri, 16th August 2021: A masterstroke carom academy for women and children has been started at Undri in Kondhwa Budruk, a suburb of Pune.

Suhas Kambli, the senior coach of the Indian carrom team, announced the opening of the academy by hitting the striker on the carrom board and guided the players.

He said, “In the past, the transport system was not the same as it is now, and even in humid climates like Mumbai, we used to practice for hours at a time with very few sports facilities. Now the situation has changed. People should take advantage of state-of-the-art sports academies. Good players should be formed in this game which increases concentration. In the past, competitors were given enough time to warm up before the competition started, which would help in mental preparation and increase the stamina required for the competition but now in all levels of carrom competitions, the contestants are brought down directly. They should be allowed to play at least two boards before the competition”.

On this occasion, Pune City NCP Vice President and former Deputy Chairman of Haveli Taluka Panchayat Samiti Sachin Ghule, National Carrom Player Medha Mitkar, National Boxing Punch and Athlete Vaishali Chipalkatty, Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Award Winner Prakash Gaikwad, International Player Anil Mundhe, International Player Abhijeet Tripankar, Maharashtra Carrom Association members Ashutosh Dhodmise, Pune Municipal Carrom Team Manager Mauli Patole, Kshitij Ghule, ICF Cup Federation Panel Umpire Sandeep Adagale, Director and Deputy Director of the Academy Ganesh Adagale and Asha Bhosale were present.

The Carrom Camp organized by the Academy from 3rd to 15th August to generate interest in the game of Carrom received a spontaneous response.
