Maya Rajeshwaran upset topseed Kukreti at Ramesh Desai Memorial under 16 Junior Tennis Nationals at Kolhapur

Kolhapur, May 31: Unseeded Maaya Rajeshwaran of Tamil Nadu caused the biggest upset of the tournament as she toppled top seeded Niyati Kukreti of Uttarakhand 7-6(6), 6-3 to enter the third round of the girls singles at the DY Patil Institute Ramesh Desai Memorial Junior under 16 Tennis National tournament which is being supported by Enerzal and. Tennis Hub and hosted by the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) and the Kolhapur District LAwn tennis Association KDLTA at the KDLTA Tennis complex in Kolhapur .

Four other upsets were also recorded in the girls second round Telangana’s Rishita Basireddy outplayed seventh seeded Saily Thakkar of Gujarat 6-2, 6-0 , Haryana’s Suhani Gaur upset eighth seeded Shagun Kumari of Uttar Pradesh 6-3, 6-3 .

Qualifier Amodini Naik of Karnataka got past thirteenth seeded Saumitra Verma 7-6(3), 1-6 , 6-1 while another qualifier Aarushi Raval of Gujarat rallied out fifteenth seeded Kumkum Kumari of Delhi 6-2, 6-4;

In the Boys second round Maharshtra player unseeded Vedant Bhasin upset fifth seeded Dhurv Sachdeva of Haryana 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to make the third round alongwith Uttar Pradesh’s Priyansh Barthwal who played a spirited game to topple twelth seeded Smit Patel of Gujarat 7-6(2), 4-6, 7-6(5) in the longest match of the day.
