Members Of Dhangar Community Hold Rasta Roko, Block Pune-Bangaluru Highway For Reservation Demand

Pune 20th Sept 2023: The traffic movement on the Pune-Bangaluru Highway was blocked for over an hour on Wednesday after the members of Dhangar community held a rasta roko protest demanding reservation for the community. A scuffle between the protestors and police was also reported during the protest.

The protestors had come in a traditional attire of the community and had brought animals with them to protest against the government. The protest started from Khandala ghat and the protestors walked up to a few meters on the highway to block the road. The protest was organised to support the ongoing protest being held at Chaundi village in Ahmednagar district for over the last two weeks. The protestors are demanding reservation for the community along with the other demands.

The vehicles on the Pune-Bengaluru highway were piled up as the road was blocked by the protestors. The police officials later managed to convince the protestors and the road was opened for vehicular movement.
