Mother of Teen in Pune Porsche Case Released on Bail from Yerawada Central Jail

Yerawada, 26th April 2025: The mother of the 17-year-old boy linked to the fatal Pune Porsche crash that claimed the lives of two IT professionals has been released from Yerwada Central Jail, four days after the Supreme Court granted her interim bail.
She is the first among the 10 individuals arrested in connection with the alleged tampering of blood samples to secure freedom for the minor accused. Others still behind bars include the boy’s father, Sassoon General Hospital doctors Ajay Taware and Shrihari Halnor, a hospital staffer Atul Ghatkamble, two alleged middlemen, and three additional accused.
The accident, which sparked national outrage over drunk driving and alleged misuse of influence, took place in the early hours of May 19 last year in Pune’s upscale Kalyani Nagar area. A Porsche car, allegedly driven by the intoxicated teenager, collided with a two-wheeler, killing both riders instantly.
Investigators alleged that the boy’s mother played a direct role in the attempted cover-up by substituting her own blood sample for her son’s at the hospital to hide evidence of his inebriation.
Following the Supreme Court’s intervention, the district and sessions court in Pune was tasked with setting her bail conditions. The matter was heard on Friday, where Special Public Prosecutor Shishir Hiray represented the state.
“We had requested the court to impose restrictions like barring her from residing within Pune district, confiscating her passport, ensuring she reports regularly to the police station, and keeping her mobile phone’s location services active,” Hiray said.
However, Additional Sessions Judge Amol Shinde partially allowed the state’s requests. While he ordered the surrender of her passport, mobile location sharing, and barred her from traveling abroad without permission, he rejected the plea to ban her from staying in Pune.
Advocates Angad Gill and Dhvani Shah, representing the woman, argued that forcing her out of Pune would be impractical given her husband’s ongoing judicial custody and the need for her active involvement in the legal defence.
“We emphasized that since the chargesheet has already been filed and there’s no pending recovery against her, there was no justification for imposing harsh conditions,” the defence lawyers said after the hearing.
The court agreed with the defence’s submissions and set the bail conditions accordingly: a personal bond of ₹1 lakh, surrender of her passport, continuous mobile tracking, and a prohibition on leaving India without prior judicial approval.
The Pune Porsche crash continues to draw intense public scrutiny, with many questioning the role of power and privilege in the case’s handling.
