Pune, 1st April 2025: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has expanded its fleet with the addition of 40 new ‘Lalpari’ buses. This is part of the corporation’s plan to introduce air-conditioned electric buses. As a result, the Pune-Mumbai route, which had been suspended for the past year, has seen the resumption of its air-conditioned electric bus service (Shivshahi-Volvo). MSRTC has announced the deployment of two buses each from the Baramati and Indapur depots on the Mumbai route.

The MSRTC operates inter-state buses from 14 depots in the Pune division, providing services to various locations. However, the corporation has started the process of gradually decommissioning over 300 buses with expired lifespans. So far, 72 Shivneri and Shivshahi buses have been retired from service. These buses, which had reached the end of their service life, were previously running on the Mumbai route, and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) had taken action against these buses. As a result, some bus services from the Baramati and Indapur depots were suspended for the last year. With the introduction of the new buses, MSRTC has resumed its air-conditioned electric bus services after a year.

MSRTC has planned to run the new buses on various routes.

– From the Baramati depot, buses will now operate on the Pune-Saswad route (8 buses) and the Belgaum route (1 bus).

– The Indapur depot will have buses running on the Tuljapur (4 buses), Umarga (4 buses), and Parli (2 buses) routes.

– The Shivajinagar depot will operate buses to Bhimashankar (5 buses), Indore (2 buses), Trimbakeshwar (2 buses), and Beed (1 bus).

– The Swargate depot will deploy buses on routes to Bidar (4 buses), Udgir (4 buses), and Gulbarga (2 buses).
