Pune 19th July 2023: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has recorded a remarkable increase in the revenue from Pune division July this year as it has been increased by four times compared to the same month last year. According to officials, the number of passengers have also increased due to the state government’s schemes launched to provide concessions to women and senior citizens.

According to the officials, MSRTC’s Pune division earned Rs 16.52 Crore in July this year compared to Rs 4.38 Crore recorded in the same month last year. A total of 5,73,549 passengers had used the service in Pune division in July last year compared to 29,50,666 passengers recorded in the same month this year.

According to officials, after the state government announced a concession for women and senior citizens aged above 75 years the number of passengers on MSRTC buses has increased. This is seen as a positive development in the public transport system as MSRTC has been at a loss for a long time. The passengers earlier preferred to use private vehicles instead of travelling in government buses. The MSRTC has also improved the facilities by inducting new buses such as ‘Shivai’ with an intent to provide better experience to the passengers.
