Mumbai-Pune Expressway Accident: Container Collision Claims Life and Leaves Five Injured

Khopoli, 23rd May 2023: On the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, around 11.15 pm on Monday (22nd May), a container traveling towards Mumbai at high speed hit six vehicles due to brake failure. In this terrible accident, one person died on the spot, and five people were injured.

According to the information received, the accident happened near 36/800 km on the Mumbai Pune Expressway. A container was traveling from Pune to Mumbai when its brakes failed at km 36/800. The container then collided with six cars.

The impact of the collision was so strong that the passengers of the vehicles sustained serious injuries. As soon as the information about the accident was received, the following agencies reached the spot to help the victims: IRB Patrolling, Devdoot System, Borghat Traffic Police System, Delta Force, Maharashtra Security Force, RTO, Lokmanya Ambulance System, and a social organization team. All the injured were admitted to Khopoli Municipal Hospital and given first aid before being shifted to MGM Hospital, Panvel.

Subhash Pandharinath Chougule, a 45-year-old resident of Vashi, Navi Mumbai, died in the accident. He suffered a broken arm and bled profusely before reaching the hospital. The injured individuals are Chandrakala Subhash Chougule (43) from Vashi, Amit Kumar Srihariram Thather (30) from Bhandup, Kausar Ali Shah (40) from Bhandup, Aftab Samiullah Alam (19) from Bhandup, and Afsar Ali Mohammad Ali (36) from Wadala.

While the driver of the container was attempting to flee the accident site, under the guidance of Yogesh Bhosle, Sub-Inspector of Borghat Traffic Police, the container was chased, and the driver was detained. The accident took place within the limits of Khopoli Police Station. Assistant Police Inspector Haresh Kalsekar and Police Sub-Inspector Alok Khismatrao arrived with officials to gather information about the incident.

After the accident, all the security agencies took immediate measures to remove the affected vehicles and restore smooth traffic flow. Tehsildar Ayub Tamboli of Khalapur Taluka and Sub Divisional Police Officer Sanjay Shukla took serious notice and reviewed the relief work late into the night. Tehsildar Ayub Tamboli has expressed appreciation for the vigilance shown by the team in helping the accident victims.
