Mumbai-Pune Travel Time To Be Reduced By 25 Minutes; 80 Percent Work Of Tunnel From Lonavala To Khopoli Completed

Pune, 28th August 2022: Construction of a new eight-lane road with two tunnels and two viaducts was undertaken on the alternate road from Lonavala to Khopoli exit on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. The total length of this tunnel is nine kilometres, out of which, work worth seven kilometres has been completed.
One of the officials from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) stated that the width of this tunnel is 23.5 meters. Due to this Missing Link, the Pune-Mumbai distance will be reduced by six kilometres, saving 25 minutes. The MSRDC has completed almost eighty percent of the tunnel work on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway from Lonavala to Khopoli.
Ghats are high in this area, and landslides always occur here during monsoons. Therefore, one lane near the hill towards Mumbai has to be closed during the monsoon. The remaining 13.3 km ‘missing link’ from Khopoli exit to Kusgaon on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will make it possible to reach Mumbai sooner.
