Murder in Pune: Woman Killed After Resisting Obscene Demands, Accused Remanded in Custody

Uruli Kanchan, 25th October 2025: In a shocking crime that has shaken the Uruli Kanchan area, a 20-year-old woman was murdered on October 14, 2025. The accused, Dinesh Sanjay Patole (26), a resident of Golewasti, Uruli Kanchan, Taluka Haveli, Pune, has been arrested following a joint operation by the Local Crime Branch and Uruli Kanchan Police Station, Pune rural police.

At around 7:30 pm on October 14, the body of an unidentified woman was found on the road leading to Gagan Akanksha Society near Prayagdham Hospital along the Uruli Kanchan-Naigaon road. Investigations later confirmed her identity as Poonam Vinod Thakur (20), a resident of Gagan Akanksha Society, Koregaonmul. Initial observations suggested murder, as she had sustained severe head injuries. Poonam’s mobile phone, slippers, and bag were recovered at the scene.

Poonam’s brother, Manish Vinod Thakur (23), filed a complaint, and a case was registered at the Uruli Kanchan Police Station. Given the incident occurred in a populated area, senior officers rushed to the scene. Special Inspector General of Police (Kolhapur Range) Sunil Phulari and Superintendent of Police (Pune rural) Sandeep Singh Gill formed four special investigation teams. These teams examined 60–70 CCTV cameras and recorded statements from over 200 people.

During the investigation, CCTV footage captured a youth riding a motorcycle towards the scene. He was identified as Dinesh Sanjay Patole. When taken into custody, he confessed to the murder.

According to the police, Poonam was walking alone when Patole approached her and made obscene demands. When she resisted, he forced her into a bush and killed her by hitting her head with a stone before fleeing the scene. Authorities have seized the motorcycle used in the crime, a Splendor.

Patole was produced in court and has been remanded in police custody until October 27, 2025.

The investigation was led by Police Inspector Avinash Shilimkar of Sadar Local Crime Branch, Senior Police Inspector Sachin Wangde of Uruli Kanchan Police Station, Assistant Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Bajigare, and supported by officers including Dattajirao Mohite, Amit Sidpatil, Anmaldar Sachin Ghadge, Asif Sheikh, Ajit Bhujbal, Yogesh Nagargoje, Raju Momin, Atul Dere, Dheeraj Jadhav, Bharat Mohol, and Ramesh Bhosale.
